REVELER SUSTAINABILITY POLICY

At Reveler, we believe that meaningful travel depends on the health of the landscapes, wildlife and communities that make Southern Africa such a remarkable destination. As a privately guided touring company operating primarily in the Western Cape, our responsibility is not only to showcase these environments but also to ensure that tourism contributes positively to their long-term protection. Our approach to sustainability is grounded in thoughtful itinerary design, responsible guiding practices and a commitment to supporting organisations working to protect South Africa’s biodiversity.

Conservation and
Environmental Stewardship

The natural environments that form the foundation of our experiences require active protection. South Africa’s coastline, marine ecosystems and the globally significant Cape Floristic Region face ongoing pressures ranging from habitat loss to climate change. Reveler supports conservation work where possible through collaboration and by promoting awareness among our guests. Organisations we have supported (directly and indirectly include: Two Oceans Aquarium, Cape Leopard Trust, Happywhale, CapeNature, SANCCOB, South African National Biodiversity Institute, Cape Winemakers Guild Protégé Programme among others Through our itineraries we also highlight scientific research and conservation initiatives taking place in the region, including projects focused on humpback whale migration research and the protection of the Cape’s unique fynbos ecosystems.

Responsible Guiding
and Wildlife Interaction

Responsible guiding sits at the centre of our sustainability approach. Our guides ensure that guest experiences respect wildlife, protected areas and sensitive habitats. We follow established principles for responsible tourism including maintaining appropriate distances from wildlife, avoiding disturbance of natural behaviour and ensuring that all activities take place within designated areas and established guidelines.

Ethical Partner Selection

Tourism is a collaborative industry and the impact of any experience is shaped by the partners involved. Reveler therefore takes care in selecting the businesses we work with across our itineraries. We prioritise partners that demonstrate responsible environmental practices, fair labour standards and a genuine commitment to sustainability. In the Cape Winelands, for example, our estate selection considers not only the quality of the wines produced but also vineyard management practices, stewardship of surrounding landscapes and the ethical treatment of workers.

Supporting Local Communities
and Producers

Responsible tourism should support the communities connected to the destinations being visited. Wherever possible, Reveler prioritises locally owned businesses, independent producers and small operators within our experiences. By directing tourism spend toward these partners, we aim to help sustain local economies and preserve cultural authenticity across the regions we visit.

Environmental Practices
in Our Operations

As a touring company, our operational footprint is largely shaped by transportation and the materials used in our guest experiences. Reveler seeks to minimise this impact through practical choices that reduce waste and encourage more responsible resource use.

Examples of these practices include:

  • Using water bottles produced from plant based materials such as sugar cane rather than traditional plastics

  • Partnering with brands such as Sealand Gear whose products are manufactured from reclaimed and recycled materials

  • Encouraging recycling wherever possible during our operations

  • Reducing unnecessary waste within vehicles and tour provisions

  • Donating surplus snacks from tours to local night shelters where possible rather than discarding them

These small operational choices form part of a broader effort to reduce the environmental footprint of our day to day activities.

Education and Awareness

Travel provides an opportunity to foster awareness and appreciation for the natural world. Throughout our experiences we share knowledge about the ecosystems, wildlife and conservation challenges facing the regions we visit. By introducing guests to the biodiversity of the Cape Floral Kingdom, the dynamics of marine ecosystems and the work of local conservation organisations, we hope to encourage a deeper appreciation for the protection of these environments.

Guide Code of Conduct

Reveler guides play a central role in ensuring that our sustainability principles are reflected in daily operations. Guides are expected to uphold the following standards while hosting guests:

  • Respect wildlife and maintain appropriate viewing distances at all times

  • Avoid disturbing natural habitats and remain within designated areas and established trails

  • Promote responsible behaviour among guests in protected environments

  • Minimise waste during tours and encourage recycling wherever possible

  • Support local businesses and producers that align with responsible tourism principles

  • Share knowledge about the ecological and cultural significance of the places being visited

Through these practices, our guides help ensure that every experience reflects the values that underpin Reveler’s approach to tourism.

Ongoing Commitment

Sustainability is not a fixed achievement but an ongoing process. Reveler continually looks for ways to strengthen our environmental practices, deepen relationships with conservation organisations and operate in a way that contributes positively to the protection of the places we are privileged to share with our guests. Our goal is simple: to ensure that the experiences we design today help preserve the landscapes, wildlife and communities that future travellers will come to discover.

SUGGESTIONS AND IMPROVEMENT

Reveler recognises that responsible tourism is an evolving practice. We welcome suggestions from our partners, guests and guides on ways to further reduce our environmental impact and strengthen our support for conservation and local communities. Constructive feedback helps us refine our practices and ensures that our approach to sustainability continues to develop alongside the destinations and ecosystems we operate within.
