WHERE & WHAT

Situated directly north of South Africa’s western coastline lies the beauty that is Namibia. This is the most dramatic, visually striking place we have ever been! The land of wonder and endless rolling sand dunes. The social media hype, mind-blowing photographs and camp fire stories about the Namibian landscape all hold true! The most sparsely populated country on the planet means the landscape and its desert-adapted animals have been left untouched and given permission to flourish. Often overlooked by mainstream travelers, the quiet beauty of Namibia leaves you with a sense of profound peace and solitude that is as enchanting as it is unique.

OUR EXPERIENCES

With a country this size and with so many unreal experiences in every corner it’s essential that you’re well informed when making touring decisions in Namibia. From the drama of the ghost-town of KolmansKop to tracking desert-adapted elephants in the remote northwestern region, and marveling at the wildlife in Etosha National Park. The world’s oldest desert truly impresses where the sand meets the Sea at Sandwich Harbor and at Sossusvlei landscapes that can’t be replicated anyehere else on earth. The Fish River Canyon is the 2nd deepest in the world and a great spectacle while the Skeleton Coast tells stories of a time gone by with it’s shipwrecks and remote location.

Sossusvlei

Located in the heart of the Namib Desert. Known for its towering red sand dunes, particularly the famous Dune 45, Sossusvlei offers a surreal landscape that captivates visitors from around the world. The stark contrast between the bright orange dunes and the clear blue sky creates a picture-perfect scenery that is a photographer's dream. Travelers can climb the dunes to witness breathtaking sunrises and sunsets, casting ever-changing shadows over the vast desert plains. The nearby Deadvlei, with its ancient, dead camel thorn trees surrounded by white clay pan, is a hauntingly beautiful sight to behold. Sossusvlei is a place where nature's raw beauty takes center stage, leaving a lasting impression on all who are fortunate enough to experience it.

KOLMANSKOP GHOST TOWN

This abandoned ghost town located in the Namib desert was once a thriving diamond mining town during the early 1900s, but has since become an eerie and desolate site. The town's unique architecture has been preserved over time, despite being half-buried in sand. Explore the remnants of the elaborate interiors of the emptied homes and the barren surroundings. Kolmanskop is now a popular tourist attraction, drawing photographers, history enthusiasts, and curious travelers looking to experience this eerie and surreal destination firsthand.

THE SKELETON COAST

The Skeleton Coast, located along the northwestern coastline of Namibia, is a harsh yet hauntingly beautiful stretch of desert landscape bordered by the cold Atlantic Ocean. Known for its eerie shipwrecks scattered along the shore, bleached whale bones, and shifting sand dunes. Travelers are drawn to this remote and rugged region for its unique wildlife, including desert-adapted elephants, lions, and seals, as well as for its stark, unspoiled beauty that offers a sense of isolation and tranquility amidst the desolate surroundings. This is an unforgettable experience that captures the essence of untouched wilderness and the fragility of life in a harsh environment.

WILDLIFE & NATIONAL PARKS

Wild Animals in this vast nation have been forced to adaopt to their desert surroundings. Given the size of the region, having a solid plan and a good guide can transform your experience.

Namib-Naukluft National Park: Namib-Naukluft is the world's largest conservation area, characterized by a desert climate. While not overflowing with wildlife, the park is home to unique species such as oryx and zebras, along with ancient plant life like the Welwitschia.

Etosha National Park: Etosha is Namibia’s premier wildlife destination, boasting a diverse array of animals such as elephants, black and white rhinos, giraffes, lions, cheetahs, leopards, various bird species, as well as numerous buck species and small predators.

Palmwag Concession (Northern Damaraland): For sightings of the elusive black rhino, head to the Palmwag concession in Northern Damaraland, where these magnificent creatures can be observed in their natural habitat.

TO DRIVE OR FLY? OR BOTH

Our honest opinion is that Namibia is a country best experienced by 4X4 over the period of 8-14 days. 90% of the country’s roads are well-maintaied dirt roads and the distances between towns and the major attractions are long but well worth it! If you have less time and little patience for road trips then flying between destinations and attractions is the better option, this however increases the costs signifcantly. A combintion of road 4X4 travel and small plane journeys represents a happy medium. Either way, a call with a Travel Designer to plan this trip is mandatory as this a journey with perhaps more moving parts than any other.

IT’S GOOD TO KNOW THE BELOW

  • Setting a budget for your Namibian trip largely depends on the level of accommodation you opt for, your length of stay and mode of travel. All of these factors can different drastically depending on your travel style. A call with one of our travel designers is highly recommeded to make sure you are comfortable!

    Accommodation:
Options vary from affordable tented camps at $170 USD per night to luxury 5 star lodges in remote locations at $1 300 USD per person per night. A combination of 4 star stays with the willingness to splurgere for 2-3 nights at some must-do lodges is our recommendation.

    Length of Stay:
We recommend at least 7 days in order to experience just a glimpse of the most popular/must see destinations and activities. A 10-14 Day stay allows you to experience both the Northern and Southern areas from Etosha to the Fish River Canyon and evertything in between.

    Mode of Travel:
Namibia is best seen by 4X4 eating up dirt roads mile by mile with an experieced driver/guide. We realize that time does not always allow for road travel so a combinaton of road and air travel is what most travelers opt for.

Whatever you do, DO NOT AGREE TO A BUS TOUR. It's too slow, too bumpy and too hot!

  • The ideal time for traveling to Namibia is during its dry season, which runs from May to October. During these months, temperatures are mild and pleasant, making it perfect for exploring the country's stunning landscapes and diverse wildlife. Daytime temperatures typically range from a comfortable 70°F to 85°F, while evenings can get quite cool, dropping to around 40°F to 50°F. This season coincides with the best opportunities for outdoor activities, including hiking and desert exploration.

It can however be described as all year round destination but be warned about the soaring high temperatures from November - March and the semi-rainy season from March - April.

  • - Direct flights globally into Cape Town International Airport + an additional flight to Windhoek International Airport.

    - A very limited amount of global aiirlines fly directly into Windhoek (Nambia's capital) removing the need to travel to Cape Town first.

    - Reveler offers private drivers and specialist guides for various activities in the region. These tours can launch from Cape Town or from Windhoek.
