This is a Cape Town City Tour that is explored through its flavors. A curated trip through the city’s food scene, where every bite comes with a story. From tucked-away street food gems to heritage-rich flavors in colorful neighborhoods, Taste the Mother City brings together culture, history, and great local eats. With a passionate guide leading the way, you’ll explore the people, places, and dishes that make Cape Town such a standout on the world’s food map.

We’ll walk between iconic landmarks like the Company’s Gardens, Bo-Kaap, and Greenmarket Square, you’ll enjoy 15+ tastings that connect the city’s history, people, and flavors.

You’ll sample Cape Malay classics, rich with spice and tradition, and try a no-frills street sandwich that’s become a legend on the Cape Flats. Later, we pause at a hidden chocolate café in the city bowl for something sweet. Bold flavors, everyday favorites, and the stories behind them all combine to reveal Cape Town in the most delicious way possible.

    • All tastings included - from local bites to drinks, with alcoholic beverages along the way

    • Stops at small, owner-run eateries showcasing authentic South African cuisine - come hungry, we promise you won’t leave with an empty stomach!

    • A guided journey through Cape Town’s layered history, with time to see some of its most notable landmarks

    • Drinking water provided throughout the tour

  • Stellski’s is a cozy café on Bree Street, known for its artisanal blends and creative energy, the perfect spot to enjoy a coffee while we do a quick introduction to the day’s food adventure.

  • Wander through the history of this iconic district, meet the keepers of a long-standing spice store, and savor the sweet and spicy flavors of Cape Malay fare. Try classics like samosas, chilli bites, and golden koeksisters.

  • Visit the historic Company’s Garden, the city’s first cultivated green space. Here you’ll enjoy a Cape botanical tasting that includes rooibos tea, traditional rusks, biltong, and a selection of artisanal salts and olive oil. We then pass the South African Parliament, St. George’s Cathedral (Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s church), the Slave Lodge, Greenmarket Square, and Cape Town’s party capital, Long Street.

  • Indulge in a local favourite, the Cape Town Burrito, also known as a “Salomie”. Various parts of the city now celebrate this most loved combo of a selected meat, chips and achar topped off with a locally made chili sauce or you can choose one of your choice. One sandwich is enough to share between 2-3 people!

  • Wine tasting of iconic South African wines like Pinotage, Chenin Blanc and local bubbly at a trendy but secluded rooftop wine bar.

  • Get a taste of the country’s social heartbeat: the braai. Enjoy a spread of smoky meats and homestyle accompaniments, a delicious introduction to one of South Africa’s most cherished food rituals.

  • Honest Chocolate in the middle of the city is where we’ll end our culinary adventure. This charming courtyard café has a serious but simple approach to crafting hand-made goodness using only two simple ingredients that go into making Honest Chocolate: Organic Tanzanian Cacao and a Sweetener. Depending on the slab, this will either be Unrefined Cane Sugar or Coconut Blossom Sugar. A brownie and a few unique truffle combinations is what we’ll end with.
