ATLANTIC PREDATORS

Shark cage diving in Gansbaai offers thrill-seekers a unique opportunity to come face to face with some of the ocean's most majestic predators. The area, just 2 hours from Cape Town is known for its rich marine biodiversity and is often referred to as the "Great White Shark capital of the world." Adventurous visitors can experience the adrenaline rush of being submerged in a secure cage just a few feet away from different shark species in their natural habitat. The Experience provides a fascinating glimpse into the world of sharks and the importance of marine conservation efforts.

Setting Expectations: We team up with the best operator in the industry. We see sightings of great whites, copper sharks (bronze whalers) and even the occasional stingray at our vessel. Although Great White Shark behaviour is less predictable post orca predation in 2017 we have seen a definite ressurgance since late 2022. Sightings of copper sharks are an almost daily occurrance. MORE THAN SHARKS

On a typical day, we are fortunate to have the opportunity to observe at least 2 of the remarkable Marine Big Five which includes the majestic Sharks, playful Dolphins, Southern Right and Humpback Whales, Cape Fur and Elephant Seals the charming African Penguins.

Part two of your day sees us travel back to Cape Town through the mountainous Overberg region. Both the Elgin and Hemel-en-Aarde Wine Valleys offer up a number of great options for a post-dive lunch and the chance to sample some excellent cool climate wines. This regions offers up some of the most scenic views of your time in South Africa.

  • Shark Diving in South Africa and more specifically a trip on the Slashfin boat, is a combination of goosebump thrills, education and relaxation onboard a luxury boat led by experienced experts and researchers. They will show you how to distinguish between a male and female shark and how to identify a specific shark by its unique dorsal fin and scars. Named after a legendary 3,3 m male shark with a very distinctive dorsal fin, the Slashfin is a unique, top of the range aluminum boat custom designed for speed, stability, safety and space and can comfortably accommodate 40 passengers.

    • Pick up from Cape Town followed by a 2.5 hour drive to Gansbaai

    • Before the trip guests meet at the Great White House

    • You will receive breakfast or lunch and register your wetsuit size

    • Guests receive a pre-trip safety briefing about what to expect during the trip and a biological background on shark species

    • You then take a 200m stroll down to the harbour to board the Slashfin Boat

    • Travel time to Shark Alley is approximately 20-25 minutes where we anchor depends on where the sharks are

    • On average, we anchor for 2 hours, but this depends on shark activity, conditions, as well as number of divers

    • Lastly, a debrief in the Great White House with soup and bread to warm you up

    • Cash showers available to freshen up before departing on your next adventure

    • Return to Cape Town or onto Overberg region lunch depending on your chosen tour option

  • We will only be able to confirm the Cape Town departure time the day before the dive, as the dive schedule is determined by ocean swell conditions. Once the dive time has been confirmed, we will then set the departure time from Cape Town. This only happens by 3pm the day before

    Departure is typically between 4:30 AM and 7:30 AM, although on some occasions we have left as early as 4:00 AM and as late as 10:00 AM. We therefore strongly recommend that you do not book any additional activities on this day and keep your schedule as flexible as possible.

    • Do I need diving experience? No you do not need any diving experience. This is not a free dive! You are in a cage which is attached to the side of the boat.

    • Are kids allowed to go? The minimum age allowed in the cage is 5 years old. Kids under 12 need to be accompanied by a guardian or parent.

    • Can I go along on the boat and not dive? Yes but this is the same cost as the dive

    • What should I bring? Sunblock, Sunglasses, Bathing Costume, Anti Nausea medication (should seasickness be a concern- recommend that it is taken the night before and two hours prior to the trip).

    • What should I wear? Bathing Costume, warm clothing (it is cold on the water when the wind blows), sneakers, wind breaker.

    • Do I need a change of clothing? You are welcome to bring a change of clothing. Showers and towels are available at an additional 70 - 100 ZAR after the dive.

    • How far is the dive location? The town of Gansbaai is a 2.5 hour drive from Cape Town. It’s essential that you are ready for your pick up time.

    • Weather? The experience is weather and tide dependent. Time slots are not confirmed times. Please ensure that you make the whole day available as times can only be confirmed the day before and are not negotiable. You will be advised the day before what time your trip will go out.

    • What time do we leave? This is only communicated the day before the day as we have to wait for that information from the skipper. Typicaly between 5:30AM - 7:30AM

    • You will not be refunded if you miss your pick up time or are more than 20 minutes late for pick up

    • You will not be refunded in the rare occurrance that no sharks are scene or if you choose to back out of the dive on the day
