24 DECEMBER - RENTAL CAR PICK UP
A Reveler driver will collect you from your hotel and take you to collect your rental car from AVIS Stellenbosch (20 minute drive). From here you can explore the region at your leisure.

25 DECEMBER - MERRY XMAS!!!

26 DECEMBER - DEPART FOR KOLKOL
Leaving the winelands, the drive over Franschhoek Pass is one of those stretches you won’t forget, winding roads, big valley views, and rugged mountain slopes all around. On the other side, things quiet down as you pass through farmland and fynbos before reaching KolKol, a peaceful spot in the hills with wood-fired hot tubs and nothing but fresh air and wide open space.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
KolKol is a fully self-catered stay. We suggest buying groceries in Franschhoek before your departure. The Checkers or Woolworths supermarket on the main road is perfect for this. There is also a woodfired pizza oven and hottub. All wood and fire starters will be provided by KolKol and will be at your POD already.

27 DECEMBER - TIME AT LEISURE

From KolKol, the road winds down through rolling farmland and small country towns before hitting the coast at Hermanus. There’s time here to stretch your legs, explore the town before the scenic drive to Stanford.

30 DECEMBER - GARDEN ROUTE BOUND
Leaving Stanford, the drive eases into the open landscapes of the Overberg before joining the Garden Route proper. It’s a day of big skies and changing scenery, from farmland to forest to coast. There are plenty of places to stop along the way, but the real reward comes when you roll into Wilderness, where dense green hills meet long, quiet beaches.

Suggested Town Stops:
- Riviersonderend: You’ll pass through here anyway - famous for the pies at Ou Meul Cafe and the Biltong Shop (beef jerky)
- Swellendam: Stop for a bite at Tredici or Field & Fork
- Heidelberg or Riversdale: Quick gas station stops to stretch your legs, not must-dos but useful if you need a break

2 JANUARY - GARDEN ROUTE MEANDER
Leaving Wilderness, the road meanders charming towns along the Garden Route. A must-stop is the Knysna Heads, where towering sandstone cliffs frame the lagoon's entrance offering breathtaking views of the ocean and estuary. Nearby, Noetzie Beach is next along the road, a secluded cove adorned surrounded by stone castles and indigenous forest. Continue eastward to Plettenberg Bay. (Call it Plett to be cool like the locals!)

3 - 5 JANUARY - ADVENTURE TIME
There’s plenty to do around Plettenberg Bay, but a few experiences really stand out. The Bloukrans Bungee, the highest bridge jump in the world is pure adrenaline. Robberg Nature Reserve offers full-day hikes with dramatic views, epic beaches and marine life sightings. And at Storms River Mouth in Tsitsikamma, the kayak and lilo adventure takes you deep into the gorge, surrounded by forest and crystal-clear water. (All within 45 min drive of Plett)

5 JANUARY - FROM PLETT TO OUDTSHOORN
From Plettenberg Bay, the road heads inland, climbing through the Outeniqua Pass with views over forested valleys and farmland. As you enter the Klein Karoo, green slopes fade into dry plains, red earth, and wide-open skies. The Swartberg Mountains rise ahead, framing the rugged beauty of this quieter part of the country.

7 JANUARY - FAMOUS ROUTE 62
After leaving De Kombuys you’ll start on Route 62. Winding through the heart of the Klein Karoo, passing through towns like Calitzdorp and Ladismith with their wide streets and quiet charm. The scenery shifts as you go, from dry, rugged hills to the softer greens of the Breede River Valley. By the time you reach the Robertson and Bonnievale area, you’re surrounded by vineyards and orchards, a clear sign you’ve entered one of the country’s most productive fruit and wine regions.

To move forward with this part of the itinerary you would need to think about the type of time you’d like to have before and after your safari.

One of the options would be to stay on the outskirts of Cape Town for a more relaxing and quiet stay after all the road tripping. Another alternative is the main beach area in Cape Town: Camps Bay - From here it’s easy access to hiking trails and top Cape Town Restaurants or activities you may have missed during your first stint.

14 JANUARY - TRANSFER TO DE ZEVEN GUEST LODGE

• For your final two nights, we suggest slowing things down with a stay at De Zeven Guest Lodge, just outside Stellenbosch in the Banghoek Valley. It’s a quiet, understated spot surrounded by the Helderberg Mountains, a great place to switch off and enjoy some downtime at the end of the trip.

• We’ve gone ahead and placed a hold on their Honeymoon Suite, which is tucked away for extra privacy and looks out over the valley.

15 JANUARY - TIME AT LEISURE OR VENTURE OUT

• The Bites and Sites Food Tour, a lazy lunch at a winery in the region or the trails at Jonkershoek Nature Reserve are all options if you’d like to venture out one last time.

• You’ll be close to a number of the country’s top dining locations and we’ll make sure to book a memorable final dinner before you head home.
