The Garden Route offers travelers contrasting landscapes from mountain passes and untouched beaches to paragliding over lagoons, experiencing SA’s number 1 adventure activity and towering ziplines, this is one trip you need to be on to complete your visit to SA. 4 Days. 4 Regions, over 1200 kilometers of pure road trip joy! For the traveler looking to experience a little bit of everything that the Western and Southern Cape has to offer. Good times await! This trip is private guided and suitable for guests who are looking to fly out of Port Elizabeth International Airport.

Here’s what you can look forward to over 4 incredible days:

Day 1 - Exploring the Countryside & Coast

  • Coffee and breakfast stop at the No.1 Farm Stall in South Africa. A host of delicacies and refreshments are available and created from strictly local produce.

  • Our journey then takes us north to one of the Cape’s most sought after Game Reserve's, The Garden Route Game Lodge, where you'll be taken on a 2 hour safari drive. The Big 5 await! Enjoy a cocktail on the viewing deck after as you look over the vast open bush. You'll love this location!

  • We'll then head to one of our favorite secret sunset spots close to Herold's Bay for a sunset drink. Loads of incredible ocean views! (ONLY POSSIBLE WHEN TOURING WITH 6 PAX OR LESS AS 4X4 VEHICLES NEEDED)

  • Our overnight accommodation is based in Wilderness or Herold’s Bay where your tour companions will prepare a traditional South African Braai (BBQ) coupled with tasty side dishes. (Vegetarian + vegan options available)

Day 2 - The Heart of the Garden Route

  • After a busy first day our morning will start with a few energy foods! (fruits, juices, breads etc) before we head to the Map of Africa viewing point. The forest and hills have formed together to create a formation that mirrors the African continent, it’s uncanny!

  • One of 2 adrenaline filled experiences for the day is up next. For the thrill seeker, guests are able to para-glide over the forests and lagoons of the Wilderness or Sedgefield with our friends from Dolphin Paragliding. With over 20 years of experience in this area, using the best gear you’ll get to enjoy a tandem flight over some of the best scenery of the trip. Landing takes place on the beach or a safe open field depending on the launch site.

  • The 2nd of our adventure experiences takes us to the forests of the Knysna region for the highest and longest zip lining adventure in SA. An adrenaline-filled trip that has you gliding over the treetops giving you a spectacular view of the surrounding forest and natural landscapes. At a relative speed. The shortest of 380 meters to the longest of just under 700 meters. As you zig zag along the amazing gorge your approach towards the ocean for the final slides becomes more exciting. The height of the cables will be an estimated 200 Meters above the forest canopy below and you will from the first zipline experience the magnitude of this world class zipline site. The ziplines are some of the longest you will experience and definitely not for someone with a fear of heights. This activity takes place in the Garden Route National Park, Knysna Section.

  • Enrico's on the beach awaits! A late lunch/early evening dinner experience with a view of the Keurbooms lagoon, beer, wine or gin in hand, it's the perfect way to end of a phenomenal day. Enrico and his family have been fishing in the region for 3 decades and have created the most loved local restaurant featuring an array of impressive Italian and Mediterranean cuisine. Be sure to ask about the BOMBA as a starter!

  • Overnight in comfortable rooms, glamping in a forest setting or a shared house in Plettenberg Bay or Knysna.

Day 3 - The Robberg Nature Reserve and Bramon Wine Estate Tasting Room

  • Following a busy day 2 we’ll get a slow start to our 3rd day before heading out to the a jewel of the region, The Robberg Nature Reserve for a half day, moderate hiking trail.

  • The beauty of Robberg Nature Reserve is iconic. A World Heritage Site and National Monument, steeped in history, with prehistoric rocks and Stone Age artefacts, Robberg attracts visitors from all over the globe. The picturesque peninsula is home to a wealth of fynbos, flora and ocean life, all of which dazzle the senses. Choose to hike the different trails, each with its own degree of difficulty, but all with unique beauty and scenery. This experience is unlike any other coastal encounter. We’ll pack a lunch and some refreshments to enjoy on one of the beach stretches within the reserve. You’re meant to take your time here, we’ll walk at your pace. (3-4 hrs in total)

  • The afternoon then takes us even further east to Bramon Wine Estate. This boutique brand is the first Estate so far East of the Western Cape. Situated in a mountainous area called The Crags, it is the first estate to pioneer vineyards in the Plettenberg Bay area, only 20 km away from the town itself. The previously family-run estate pushed the boundaries of wine-making with their award-winning, non-traditional and traditional Méthode Cap Classique bubblies and still wines, collecting national and international awards. Bringing a plethora of new vineyards to the area, Bramon has paved the way for a new “Sparkling Wine Route”, and with the introduction of brand new owners with a mountain of exciting plans for improvement ahead, Bramon Wine Estate is sure to become, and keep on becoming, better than ever and to be the preferred wine-tasting destination of choice. We’ll taste 6 wines here followed by a late lunch at their renowned on site restaurant.

  • The day ends with a short drive to the Africamps Boutique Glamping Location at Ingwe (this is proper glamping in style!). Each unite is fully equipped with everything you could need and more, it’s like an apartment on stilts in the forest! The unit’s private deck boasts a wood fired hot tub and en-suite bathroom together with a queen sized bed fully equipped kitchen. Soak up the tranquil beauty and peaceful sounds of Ingwe’s forest.

  • We have various options for dinner on this night, simply speak to your guide about what these are.

Day 4 - The Storms River Kayaking & Lilo Experience

  • Our final day starts with a warm and hearty breakfast before we make the short journey to the famous Tsitsikamm National Park and the Storms River Mouth. A firm favorite of visitors from all around the globe.

  • We’ll link up with the team at Untouched Adventures for one of the most enjoyed activities in the area, the 2-3 hour Storms River Kayak & Lilo adventure. Explore deep into the Storms River Gorge paddling up the ultimate treasure of Tsitsikamma National Park. We paddle right into the bats’ cave and spend time gazing up in awe at the spectacular cliffs all around us – all from the comfort of our double sit-on-top kayaks.

  • At the low-water point, we say goodbye to our kayaks and hello to our floater friends – the lilos. (A short information break for those who do not know: A lilo is a small inflatable boat and our unique ones are specially designed for this trip to access the narrow parts of the gorge). From here on we walk over a short section of rocks and then simply float deeper up the river gorge on the lilos. Upon reaching our destination you have the option to take part in a number of small but exciting cliff jumps before we make a U-turn and float back down the river to our kayaks.

  • The final stretch of our tour is then upon us as we start the 2 hours drive to Port Elizabeth after what will be an epic 4 days experiencing the joy of the Garden Route.
