A CLOSE QUARTERS EXPERIENCE WITH THE AFRICAN PENGUINS OF BOULDERS BEACH AND ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST REMARKABLE PENINSULAS

The cape peninsula

This captivating stretch of coastline extends south from Cape Town, flanked by the Atlantic Ocean on both sides. Towering cliffs, sandy coves, and sweeping bays set the scene for some truly breathtaking views. At its most iconic points lie at the Cape of Good Hope at Cape Point Light Houses, where visitors can witness the dramatic meeting of ocean currents at Africa’s southwestern tip. This land has seen centuries of daring explorers, it’s wild, storied, and unbelievably beautiful, one of those rare places where every turn feels like a postcard.

OUR PENGUIN FRIENDS

Tucked along the eastern edge of Boulders Beach is a narrow pathway that sometimes lets us get incredibly close to the African penguin colony. These charming little birds may look cute and clumsy, but they’ve got plenty of spirit. With the right balance of curiosity and respect, the experience becomes something special, up close, but never intrusive.

They're also in trouble. Habitat loss, pollution, and dwindling fish stocks have pushed them onto the endangered list. We're proud to support local conservation efforts working to protect their future because once you’ve met them, it’s hard not to care.

IDEAL itinerary

(This is an exmaple of our most popular peninsula tour. Your tour can however be customized to suit your activity, lunch or time preferecnes)

    • Snack pack filled with local South African treats

    • Pick up from accommodation in Cape Town or Surrounds

    • Qualified Private Guide

    • Vist to the Boulders Beach Penguin Colony

    • Vist to the Cape of Good Hope & Cape Point National Park

  • Our first stop is only place in the world where you can get this close to the African Penguin. These friendly little guys have been kind enough to share their spectacular beach with us. The elevated boardwalks of Boulders Beach wind their way through the dunes and vegetation and not only provide great viewing spots, but also protect nesting penguins and their chicks. The opposite side of the beach allows us to climb over and under boulders to get even closer but only close enough to observe and not disturb.

  • Cape Point National Park boasts over 1100 indigenous plant species that form a small part of the much celebrated Fynbos Kingdom, the smallest but most diverse of the world's six floral kingdoms. Larger animals like Zebra, Eland and Bontebok are a rare sight, but one can often find roaming Ostriches and Baboons and between June & November the Humpback and Brydes whales are not uncommon.

The Cape of Good Hope is situated at the junction of the warmer Agulhas current and colder Benguela current and, as a result, the marine life found on either side of Cape Point differs vastly. We'll visit the Cape of Good Hope and the lighthouses of Cape Point.

  • Neatly nestled in a cute little corner at Cape Point is a crooked little shack made of windows that welcomes revelers with a cup of hot tea and a scrumptious scone or two among other tasty desserts. Made almost entirely from windows, the Scone Shack invites the outside world in and allows curious creatures around it to join its patrons in enjoying the space.

The Scone Shack used to be lived in by a laborer on the farm but when he left, they decided to remodel it and make a kitchen area. The unique “café of sorts” was created with sustainability in mind by our good friends Carl & Kara, building up the walls from scraps and repurposed window pieces.

  • From start to finish Chapmans Peak Drive will blow the mind of even the most seasoned traveler. The road meanders along as it hugs the rock faces of the back end of Table Mountain just meters above the iconic bay. Photo opportunities and roadside stops a plenty on what we think is one of the most beautiful roads anywhere in the word.

We'll prepare a craft gin cocktail of our very own award winning Pesky Hobbit Gin born during the global hardships of 2020 and (maybe) a sneaky bootlegging story

  • Our final stop is at a destination synonymous with Capetonian foodie culture. The local fisherman of Hout Bay have long been regarded as the best in the business when it comes to delivering the tastiest Fish and Chips in SA. This is a real winner and a must do for lunch during your time here.
