DAY 1: After being picked up from Port Elizabeth Airport we’ll make our way 70KM’s north to the Addo region. Located in the beautiful citrus and rose growing area of the Sundays River Valley, 20 minutes from the Addo Elephant Park, Dave and Judy Smith welcome you to their farm, Avoca. Accommodation is in riverside chalets or bush cottages or the well known Tree Tops Cottage. On night one your tour companion will prepare a traditional South African Braai containing locally grown beef, sides and drinks to suit. (Assuming flight arrives after 12 noon)
DAY 2: After breakfast we’ll head into the Addo Elephant Park on a guided game drive experience. The park boasts an elephant population of over 650 elephants and well as 4 members of the big 5. The chances of seeing elephants bathing at watering holes is extremely high as the temperatures this time of year average around 30-35 degree mark. We’ll spend 4-5 hours in the park which will include light snacks and drinks in an air-conditioned vehicle. If you would like to use a traditional open-air safari vehicle this can be arranged.
Lunch will take place at a local restaurant before we make our way back to Avoca to relax at the pool or on the river. Dinner plans will be decided on the day depending on the feeling in the group.
storms river mouth. Tsitsikamma. knysna.
DAY 3: After breakfast at the pool, we’ll depart the Addo region for heart of the Garden Route (3HR Drive). The forests of the Tsitsikamma National Park await. We’ll link up with the team at Untouched Adventures for one of the most enjoyed activities in the area, the 2-3 hour Storms River Kayak & Lilo adventure. Explore deep into the Storms River Gorge and enjoy the long, deep, quiet pools with deep caves and ancient indigenous forests that the Garden Route is famous for.
Lunch is then enjoyed on the ocean front at a restaurant based inside the park. We'll then make our way to our 4* accommodation in Knysna (1.5 HR Drive). Our friends at Africa Complete have a number of memorable rooming options with unrivaled views of the Knysna lagoon. Dinner will either take place on site or at the popular Knysna Waterfront, the 34 South Restaurant is a must visit when in town!
DAY 4: Knysna is one of the gems South Africa and a playground during this time of year. We’ll start our morning by taking a trip to the scenic Knysna Heads. A short walk to the viewing cliffs allows us to take some of the best photos of this entire trip, a firm favorite for locals and visitors alike! We then team up with our friends from Peggy’s Tours for an ethical visit to one of the local townships. In 2-3 hours, you will get to experience the township life through visits to schools, artists, locals and shop owners. You get to see and understand how the townships started and how they evolved into a community of passion and 'Ubuntu' (spirit of giving). We will share a few Xhosa words together and participate in a local art class for school kids. You will also interact through music with locals and sample traditional foods and see how these meals are prepared.
The perfect afternoon does exist! Re-visit the Knysna Heads but this time by boat. A lagoon cruise is up next, relax with a drink and fresh oysters (world famous) while anchored at the mouth of the lagoon. We then return to our accommodation for a relaxed evening where your tour companion will again prepare a traditional South African Braai.
WILDERNESS. GEORGE.
DAY 5: As the festive & family season reaches it’s climax we’ll head for the Wilderness area of the Garden Route. We’ll start day 5 with a quad-biking adventure through the Wilderness forest. You’ll have the option of 4km, 7km, 11,km or 16km routes. This is loads of fun and the perfect way to see some vegetation you would not get to see otherwise. There are a number different locations along the route that are suitable for lunch, we’ll choose based on the feeling of the group at the time.
Our next stop is the picturesque ‘Map of Africa’ viewpoint. The forest and hills have formed together to create a formation that mirrors the African continent, it’s uncanny! For the thrill seeker, guests are able to para-glide over the forests and lagoons of the Wilderness from this very location (LET ME KNOW IF THIS IS SOMETHING YOU WOULD LIKE TO DO).
We will then book into a house or guesthouse where the owners are our personal friends. The Wilderness beach is one of the longest in the world, the ideal spot for sunset sundowners. Dinner can be prepared by the group together at home which will have an inviting cooking and dining space.
DAY 6: REST DAY

The crew members are also trained in skills such as firefighting and medical emergencies. The 20 minute trip to Shark Ally lies ahead, followed by the most incredible experience as you dive for 20 minutes at first in a cage once the sharks arrive and for as long as you want after that as the boat spends 2-3 hours out at sea. Film footage and photographs are available after the dive.

Blaine has lived in 5 of South Africa’s 9 different provinces and currently ventures all over the country on various expeditions. Ryan chose to make the Western Cape his home after a stint up north, you won’t find a bigger patriot for his country and a better Western Cape expert anywhere else!
